Ordering from the atelier

The atelier allows you to commission pieces from the extensive Keep & Share knitwear archive. The original pieces are not for sale, but they can be recreated directly or reinvented with a new colourway, yarn, detail or length.

The commissioning process

The first step in commissioning a piece is to make an enquiry, by clicking the ‘enquire’ button on the page of the style you are interested in. In your message, tell me how you want your piece to be – either recreated directly, or reinvented with a new colourway, yarn, detail or length. For example, you may choose a style, and see that the original was made in cream cotton. You might say that you would prefer navy wool, or maybe cashmere – depending on the final price.

Please also tell me your size (dress size for women, chest size for men).

I will respond to your enquiry and let you know what yarn/colour options are available, along with the price of each option. If you are happy to proceed, I will then send yarn and fabric samples for you to review. Even if you have requested a direct replica of the garment, the original yarns may not still be available, so I will send the nearest available options for you to approve.

Depending on the style, I may send a sample garment for you to try on in order to get the right fit. In this situation, you would be required to return the sample garment by post (at your own cost). I may alternatively ask you to send measurements of yourself, and/or of a similarly-shaped garment in your wardrobe. In this case, I will supply you with instructions on what to measure.

If you decide you don’t want to proceed, you can cancel your order at any time up to this point, without charge.

Once we have agreed on yarn, colour and size, I will send you a Paypal invoice to pay online. Please click here for further information on payment and delivery.

I will then make your piece and send it to you within 4-6 weeks. Hopefully, the fit will be right first time! However, the commission fee includes one free alteration. If you aren’t happy with the fit, you can send it back to me and I will alter it accordingly. Any further alterations would incur an additional fee.

The whole process should take around 8 weeks, though requests for specific yarns or colours may require more time for me to source suitable supplies.

All Keep & Share items are priced according to two factors: the time involved in making, and the cost of yarn. For each item in the archive, a price is displayed which indicates the price of commissioning a replica piece in a similarly priced yarn to the original.

Further changes – such as more expensive yarns, additional details, or changes in garment length – may incur an additional charge. This charge would be indicated in my reply to your initial enquiry, along with an explanation and suggestions of other options.

Because these pieces are made to commission, they cannot be returned for a refund. However, each step of the commissioning process described above is designed to ensure that you will be happy with your final piece.
